Obituary of John Joseph Palmer

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

John J (Jack) Palmer was called to the Lord and Angels on October 8, 2018 surrounded by his loving family in Severna Park, Maryland.

Born in Dubuque, Iowa on April 25, 1921 to John Charles and Isabelle McGovern Palmer, Jack went on to graduate with honors from Jesuit High School in New Orleans, Louisiana and then on to Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey, where he graduated in three years with a BA in Business.

Jack enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1943 and was deployed on active duty in the South Pacific on Okinawa and Guadalcanal. He was honorably discharged as Captain at the conclusion of the War.

Upon returning home, he married the love of his life, Maryanita Duff, on April 12, 1946 in East Orange, New Jersey. The couple lived in Essex Fells for 35 years and spent their summers in Bay Head and Mantoloking. Later in life, they lived in Stuart, Florida and most recently in Annapolis, Maryland in order to be close to family. They remained devoted to each other until Maryanita’s death in October, 2016.

Jack’s outgoing and gracious personality contributed to his successful career as Vice President of Sales with Peerless Tube Company in Bloomfield, New Jersey. He was an active golfer and member of The Essex Fells, Spring Lake and Mariner Sands Country Clubs, along with being an active tennis player as a member of the Bay Head Yacht Club, where he also was “famous” for performing his George M Cohan song and dance routine at the annual Bubbles Talent Show.

His loving wife Maryanita, daughter Jacqueline Marie and granddaughter Bridget Egan predecease Jack. He is survived by daughter Mary Ellen (Molly) and her husband Dr. David McDermott, and daughter Carolyn (Lynn) and her husband Bill Egan. He leaves nine grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.

Rest in Peace dear Poppee. We love you and will miss you every day.

Thank you for being you, our hero!!!
